SPW: Support Pregnant Women Campaign

Breaking Down Barriers to Maternal Healthcare: The SPW Initiative’s Community-Based Approach

Nigeria currently bears a significant burden, comprising over 20% of global maternal mortality rates. Alarmingly, the risk of maternal mortality for Nigerian women stands at 1 in 22, a staggering contrast to the substantially lower risk of 1 in 4900 in developed nations. Within numerous Nigerian communities, expectant mothers encounter formidable financial and healthcare obstacles, resulting in dire consequences such as the heartbreaking loss of maternal and newborn lives during childbirth or the postpartum period.

The SPW campaign represents a pioneering endeavour poised to make meaningful strides in addressing maternal health disparities nationwide. Our strategy involves conducting community health awareness talks targeting vulnerable populations to enhance medical literacy, close gaps in education accessibility and foster community participation in identifying pregnancy-related complications—however, the success of our endeavour hinges upon adequate financial support. We sincerely invite individuals and organizations to join hands with us in collaboration and partnership. Together, we can empower expectant mothers, mitigate preventable maternal and neonatal deaths, and effect transformative change across Nigeria.
